Dayan the Cat | 猫のダヤン

Dayan the Cat (猫のダヤン) is the iconic protagonist of the Wachifield (わちふぃーるど) fantasy picture book series, created by Japanese author and illustrator Akiko Ikeda (池田あきこ) in 1983.

The Character & Origin
Originally an ordinary house cat living in the human world (the "Earthly World"), Dayan accidentally slips into a magical, parallel dimension called Wachifield. In this whimsical world, animals walk on two legs, speak, and celebrate unique seasonal festivals.

Dayan is easily recognized by his striking, expressive gold eyes and beautiful gray-and-white tabby fur. He has a slightly mischievous, independent, and curious nature. He lives in a cozy house shaped like a giant old tree trunk in Tassel Muir, where he enjoys taking naps, exploring, and going on adventures with his animal companions, like Marcy the Rabbit and Jip the Alligator.

A Beloved Lifestyle Brand
Beyond the beautifully illustrated books and novels, Dayan has evolved into a massively popular lifestyle brand in Japan. Known for its sophisticated, slightly vintage, and high-quality artistic aesthetic, Wachifield products span across fine leather goods, specialty stationery, and home decor that appeal deeply to both adult cat lovers and fantasy enthusiasts.
